Transas Has Won Government Tender for Delivery of Mi-171 Helicopter Full Flight Simulator

The simulator whose delivery will be completed before the end of this year, will be used for implementing flight and maintenance personnel training programs, conducting drills and assessing crew proficiency. This simulator enables exercises within the entire range of operating conditions specified by the Mi-171 Flight Manual. There is a capability to enter failures, to take into account crew errors, adverse weather conditions during the training. The LOFT (Line Oriented Flight Training) and CRM (Crew Resource Management) training methods are also implemented. Contingency training is provided both, by creating and editing exercises based on actual flight accidents, and by entering and cancelling failures from the instructor workstation. The instructor can conduct briefing and debriefing, document the flight and crew simulator training results.

An organic cockpit, simulators of onboard equipment and controls (control stick, collective pitch control lever, pedals), up-do-date “Aurora” visual system, unparalleled in Russia or abroad; state-of-the-art software and use of adequate mathematic models (created in close cooperation with Moscow Mil Helicopter Plant named after M.L. Mil) – all this ensures extreme realism of the helicopter motion in space, operation of the flight control and navigation equipment and airborne systems. The visual system imitates the actual terrain permitting the crew to train in the conditions as close as possible to the actual ones.

The spherical type screen provides downward visibility from the lower semi-sphere cockpit enabling exercises and drills in landing with selection of a ground site from the air, landing on a small-size helipad (a drilling platform or a sea ship), landing in the mountains.

All the simulators delivered before for similar helicopter types (Mi-8T, Mi-8MTV) have passed tests with the industry’s certification centres participating, and an appropriate qualification assessment by the authorized certification agencies (RF Federal Transport Oversight Authority, GosNII GA Aviation Certification Center), and have been A-level certified.

At least 10 TRANSAS full-flight simulators will be functioning in the Russian Federation in 2008. According to the expert judgement, putting into operation the simulator at the Omsk Civil Aviation Flight College, entry into service of Europe’s largest helicopter training centre with D-level simulators for Gaspromavia company (commissioning started in 2007) in combination with simulators previously installed in the training centres of SPARK (Mi-8MTV) and UT Air (Mi-8T and Mi-8MTV), will offer a significantly higher training level for the crews of the most common helicopter type – Mi-8/Mi-17.
